Is it a bird? is it a plane? Nope – it’s Click Travel’s Harpreet sprinting down Brindleyplace canal!
Last Saturday Click Travel participated in the annual Brindleyplace Dragonboat Race. Now in it’s 17th edition, the race pits Birmingham-based businesses against each other, in fancy dress, all in the name of charity and this year the event was held in aid of Cure Leukaemia.
This was Click’s first ever attempt at the Dragonboat Race and after expertly assembling our team there was only one thing left to decide… our fancy dress theme! With numerous suggestions, (I personally voted for Captain Jack Sparrow, any excuse to drink rum…) we decided on superheroes. Representing a wide spectrum of superheroes, our team comprised of Captain America, Deadpool, Superman, Jubilee, Harley Quinn, Bananaman, Batman, Batwoman, Storm, Poison Ivy & Wonderwoman.
After several dress rehearsals, involving office chairs and wrapping paper rolls, it was time for the real thing and for our debut race Click found ourselves up against construction company Carillion, Click’s Comic Book Escapade vs Carillion Crusaders. We huffed and puffed, with a frantic sprint but Carillion Crusaders pulled ahead.
Next up was Click’s Comic Book Escapade vs Horsey McHorseface. After a great start, we seemed to mastered the technique, everything was going great and we were pulling ahead, but then disaster struck… the boat dramatically rocked to the right, back to the left and then finally to the right to the extent that it caused the boat to capsize! Turns out the boat couldn’t contain all of the superpowers.
Unfortunately we didn’t take part in our last race against restaurant chain CAU as our team were soaking wet from our little swim in the canal!
Once the dust, or canal, had settled the Vodafone Vikings emerged victorious, taking home the much coveted winners trophy. It was great to see so many local companies and people coming together to participate in a day of fun and laughter for such a great cause.
Our Director of Operations, Chris Vince was elated after the event, saying
We were thrilled to take part in this amazing event. We were counting down the days until the race and it was lovely to see people from all over Click Travel taking part in this excellent cause in aid of Cure Leukaemia. We’re already looking forward to taking part in next year’s edition, although fingers crossed there will not be another capsizing.
